Plenty of news surrounding bed bugs is circling the internet this week. The blood-sucking creatures seem to have their nasty fangs in a number of cities. Here’s a round-up of news we at Bed Bug Plague find particularly worth reading:
- Blood-sucking bed bugs are on the rise in the city of Lincoln in the UK, according to the Lincolnshire Echo. Cases of bed bug infestations have doubled there in the last few years. As a wise pest control professional in the article said, “All it takes is a few to crawl into a suitcase, be carried back to the UK, then get nice and settled in your own home.” That’s right. So make sure you’re doing a full sweep of your hotel room, next time you travel.
- Bed bugs plague the Bronx Psychiatric Center, according to the NY Daily News. The newspaper described the situation as “bed bug bedlam”. Also from the article: “Bed bugs have been known to cause or exacerbate insomnia, stress and depression.” This certainly will not aide in a speedy recovery for the hospital’s patients. It’s another reminder that no place is safe from the bed bug plague. The creatures are incredible hitchhikers, and will gladly take up residence in hospitals, nursing homes, and other places where the most vulnerable in our society live.
- School aren’t exempt from the bed bug plague. Hamilton schools in New Jersey are suffering from a bed bug infestation of their own. An infested elementary student brought the bugs to his classroom.

Bed bugs are a year round pest. Their season is night time. It took six months to get bed bugs out of my home. It wasn’t quick or easy but it can be done. You can watch videos on how to inspect your own home at bedbugsnw.com. I would take ants and carpet beetles any day over bed bugs. They may be the most difficult pest to treat in your home as all they eat is blood, preferably human. Unlike other bugs that want your leftovers, these bugs seek you out while you are sleeping (they need you to be very still while they feed for five to ten minutes). The best way to get rid of bed bugs is with information.
