Bed bug scanning technology, originally developed at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), is one of three technologies developed at the U.S. Department of Energy’s national laboratory. These technologies are to be licensed to new companies as part of a White House initiative called Startup America. The initiative was announced earlier this year and offers startup companies the opportunity to license new technologies at an affordable rate.
VisiRay, a company started by University of Oregon Lundquist Center for Entrepreneurship, is creating a product with the scanning technology that will make it possible for pest inspectors to see clear images of insects through drywall particle board. Bed bugs will be the initial target of the technology. However, the technology may be used for looking at other hard-to-spot pests in residential and commercial buildings, such as termites. The technology was initially developed by PNNL and the Federal Aviation Administration to use as scanners for screening passengers at airports.

This technology would be extremely helpful to the industry.., and maybe not so friendly to the “pesticide” side of the pest control industry.
However, until we get a handle on bed bugs at home and the general public taking more time to educate themselves on bed bug awareness and how this pest travels among us – it will continue to be a tough road ahead.

We’re in agreement, education is the best prevention. Thanks for the comments!
