Bed bugs are notorious for being extremely difficult to find and exterminate.
That’s why Chris Goggin invented the Bed Bug Detective – an “electronic dog nose” device that can “sniff” out the bloodsuckers in just minutes. It was recently recognized by Popular Science with a 2011 PopSci Invention Award.
According to PopSci.com, the device was modeled after the way a dog picks up the scent of bed bug pheromones, a technique that has been used increasingly by pest control experts. Currently, 200 dogs are trained and employed in the U.S. to help with bed bug detection and treatment.
